Boppin' is, at its heart, a tile-matching puzzle game, but with some arcade and platforming elements mixed in. You control one of the two triangle-headed creatures who will pick up and throw items to clear them off the screen to release monsters from video games (if that makes any sense). The story is explained in a nicely drawn intro sequence, but don't think too hard about it.

The main idea is that the pieces you pick only fly diagonally, so you need to aim carefully to get each piece where you want it. Lost pieces count towards subtracting the player's life points. Once a certain pattern of identical pieces is cleared from the screen, a monster is released. The level ends when all pieces are off the screen.

Boppin' was originally marketed as shareware, with only one episode available in the unregistered version out of five in the full game. It has been declared freeware in 2005, and later author Jennifer Diane Reitz made a Windows port, available from the current official site (please see the links section below).

Cheats

The following cheats can be used anytime during the game:

Ctrl-B: Display the mystery spot
Ctrl-L: Moves you to the next level, at the expense of a life.
Shift-Ctrl-L: Moves you back a level. This will not work during the final battle.

These cheats work only in the registered version of the game. You must enter the password "TOYS" before using them to activate them:

1 or ! Set lives for player one to 0
2 or @ Set lives for player two to 0
Alt-H: Delivers one maximum hit during the final battle
Ctrl-F5: Adds one life to player one (nine max)
Ctrl-F8: Adds one life to player two (nine max)
Ctrl-F: Jump to the final battle for the episode
