Noctis is one of the more unusual "indie" games out there. It's a medtative sandbox space exploration sim where the player takes on the role of a Stardrifter -- a space voyager who roams around galaxies on a sort of a sightseeing tour.

There is no set objective and players can go wherever they want. Pick a star, travel there using "Vimana flight", then you can land on any planet or moon of the star system and freely explore it on foot. There is an option to take screenshots as in-game photographs. The game does not go into complexities of a realistic spaceship simulation, but it is still advised to study the manual before playing.

Noctis is freeware and the source code is also available, so several third-party modifications exist. The original author only strictly forbids to add any kind of violence, combat or suchlike features into the game, so that it always remains peaceful and meditative.
