Spelbeschrijving

Shadow of the Comet is a point-and-click adventure game heavily inspired by the works of H. P. Lovecraft. The story takes place in a small American town of Illsmouth which is about to witness the passing of Halley's comet, when the British journalist and astronomer John Parker arrives to investigate paranormal claims made by the late scientist Lord Boleskine, who had observed the comet from the same town over seventy years before.

The game is not based directly on any of Lovecraft's stories, but incorporates many of their elements in its plot and setting. Another remarkable feature of this game is that many characters' portraits are based on likenesses of known film actors of the time.

The playable CD demo includes the first day of the full game, and also a separate "Lovecraft museum" feature, which is an interactive museum with various Lovecraft-related exhibits, based on the same engine as the game itself. Another pre-release demo exists that features a narration by Lovecraft himself (under the name Howard Phillips), and has notable differences such as another name for the main character and a different name of the town.
